The musical abilities and experiences of Gary D. Cannon are
exceptionally broad, embracing conducting, composing, teaching, singing, and
musicological research. He holds degrees from the University of California,
Davis (B.A. in music, with honors, 1999) and the University of Washington,
Seattle (M.Mus. in choral conducting, 2003), where he currently pursues
doctoral studies. Cannon resides in Seattle, Washington.
Cannon is active as a choral conductor throughout the
Seattle area. He is in his fifth season as chorusmaster of the Northwest
Mahler Festival, and also serves as choir director at St. Thomas More
Catholic Church in Lynnwood. While at the University of Washington, he
directed the University Singers and the UW Men's Ensemble, and was assistant
director of the Chamber Singers and University Chorale. In California, he
was founding artistic director of the student vocal/instrumental ensemble,
Pulchritudina, and conducted the Davis Festival Singers
He is also adjunct faculty at Whatcom Community College in
Bellingham, where he teaches music history and fundamental theory. His
versatility extends to solo singing as a tenor, including regular
appearances with The Tudor Choir. Cannon also pursues his deep love of
musicology, specializing in twentieth-century British music, particularly
the works of William Walton. Cannon periodically dabbles in musical
composition, especially vocal and chamber music. More information about
